Weekend Weather

We have once again consulted our rainman to see how the sky will fare over the weekend. Saturday will bring us sunny spells with mild cloud cover, great weather for the air display and an ice cream! On Sunday we expect more of the same and a few showers over the day.

Vulcan Bomber and Battle of Britain flying at War Torn

The Spirit of Great Britain, aka the last airworthy Vulcan XH558 will be performing a flying demonstration over the bay on the Saturday of our show. A key part of our nuclear deterrent before submarines superseded its role, the Vulcan makes a distinctive, hard to forget howl as it screeches through the air.

In addition to this the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be flying by including the historic Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber. Finally later in the day an RAF Tucano will be performing a display. Our venue is perfectly placed to see each plane perform over the course of the day.

Steve Dunn talks on the Battle of Coronel

It is with great excitement that we can inform you of our first guest speaker for 2014. Steve R Dunn, author of The Scapegoat: the Life and Tragedy of a Fighting Admiral will be speaking about the Battle of Coronel. The talk will focus on Rear Admiral Sir Christopher Cradock, a man blamed for the death of 1660 men in the worst naval disaster for 100 years. However questions remain - was Cradock responsible, or is this a case of character assassination?

Guest speakers are a new attraction for this year and will become an annual feature of our show. We plan to present a variety of speakers over the next few years, talking on a range of subjects of interest. All talks at War Torn will be free for visitors. A timetable for events over the weekend will be put up shortly.
